AI Trade Gateways
Proposal – Next Generation Chamber of Commerce Digital Infrastructure
Vertical Trade Gateways
Chambers can extend their trusted institutional role into the Agentic economy by being paid to run workshops that are conducted by an IBM Partner, or by validating businesses, stewarding geographic or sector Trade Nodes, and helping provide Canonical AI Endpoints within the framework of a federated digital-trade network.
International trade is entering a new era. Historically, businesses discovered suppliers through trade fairs, Chamber directories, catalogues, websites and search engines. Increasingly, discovery and commercial interaction are being assisted or initiated by AI systems. The next generation of trade infrastructure must enable authorised AI Agents—not only humans—to discover, evaluate and interact with businesses through trusted, machine-readable interfaces. The Registry discovers. Trust primitives establish identity, authority and authentication. Trade Gateways organise geographic or sector trade ecosystems. Chambers validate, attest, steward and onboard. AI Agents interact. Enterprise systems execute authorised workflows. Transactions produce evidence. An AI Trade Gateway is an independently operated geographic or sector Trade Node through which validated businesses, products, services and trade capabilities participate in the federated Agentic Trade network. The Gateway does not replace the Canonical AI Endpoints Registry. Canonical AI Endpoints exposed through the Node are made discoverable through AIEndpointsRegistry.com. A Canonical AI Endpoint is an authoritative, persistent machine-readable address through which AI Agents can discover and interact with an entity. It is not the entity’s identity itself. Identity and authority are established through interoperable trust primitives. Chambers could participate in the programme at different levels—from being paid to run workshops for local businesses that are conducted by IBM Partners, to acting, where appropriate, as trusted Custodians and Namespace Stewards for geographic or sector Nodes. Instead of acting only as issuers of physical certificates and providers of traditional business services, Chambers can become trusted business-validation, attestation and trade-node institutions for the AI economy. as detailed below. A Chamber-operated Trade Gateway can provide a governed Node. VALIDATE → ATTEST → STEWARD → ONBOARD The Chamber does not need to become the global identity provider, the Canonical AI Endpoints Registry, the authentication rail or the enterprise execution engine. The Chamber has a range of participation options, from simply being paid to arrange workshops that are conducted by IBM Partners, through to acting as a Namespace for the Trade Gateway in the area in which it operates. Operation of the Trade Gateway is done by AI Agents with Human Oversight. Full training and support provided. A buyer or procurement Agent defines a requirement for goods or services. AIEndpointsRegistry.com resolves authoritative endpoints relevant to the request. A geographic or vertical Trade Gateway establishes the commercial ecosystem in which the participants operate. Independent trust primitives establish participant and Agent identity and authority, using relevant attestations where appropriate. Relevant identifiers, credentials, certifications and provenance evidence are evaluated. The Agent accesses machine-readable catalogues, submits an RFQ or requests availability and commercial terms. Purchase orders, contracts, declarations or instructions are authenticated through the appropriate trust primitive. An enterprise execution environment performs the authorised workflow under defined governance rules. Payment, shipment and physical fulfilment proceed through the relevant commercial and logistics infrastructure. Payment and Logistics Services provided by major operators. Canonical AI Endpoints and Chamber-operated Trade Nodes are intended to work alongside existing digital-trade, identifier and legal interoperability frameworks rather than replace them. Ancient Silk Road → Modern Silk Road → Agentic Silk Road A Chamber was historically a trusted institutional point in a trading community. In the Agentic Silk Road, it can become a trusted steward of a machine-readable trading community. A Chamber-operated Trade Gateway can become a practical Digital Trade Readiness Laboratory in which businesses demonstrate that independently operated standards, endpoints, trust primitives, Agents and execution environments can interoperate in real trade scenarios. Standards → Implementation → Interoperability → Trust → Transaction → Evidence Every participating exporter, Chamber, trade association, manufacturer, product and service can be represented by an authoritative Canonical AI Endpoint—providing a persistent machine-readable address for participation in the Agentic economy. AI will increasingly assist discovery, negotiation and commerce on behalf of businesses. Chambers of Commerce have a unique opportunity to extend their trusted institutional role into this new environment without needing to become closed technology platforms. ICC, the World Chambers Federation, national Chambers and trade associations are invited to explore how established digital-trade standards, trusted Chamber functions and federated AI infrastructure can interoperate in practical Digital Trade Readiness environments. Chambers do not need to become global technology platforms or identity providers. Their unique value is institutional trust. A Chamber can validate and attest businesses, steward a geographic or sector Trade Node, onboard businesses to Canonical AI Endpoints and enable those businesses to participate in a federated Agentic Trade network. AIEndpointsRegistry provides discovery. Independent primitives provide machine identity, authority and authentication. Trade Gateways provide commercial context. Chambers provide trusted institutional stewardship.
